Thanks for everything you did to support me as I created and launched WKND Pitch Perfection. This description of funnels alone is worth its weight in gold to people like me who love talking story, but struggle with how best to spread the word about our offerings.

Thanks for showcasing the cohort in the article. I hope that it encourages others to work together to produce awesome results like we did. It taught me that together we can accomplish so much more than when we work alone which is analogous to book coaching itself.

Would a book coach have access to an agent? If so I have my credit card out. And I'm not kidding

No one can roll out a red carpet to an agent, for any price.

What a book coach can do is make sure you are well-prepared to pitch, help you research a robust list of agents who would be a good fit for your project, make sure your pitch materials (query, book proposal, sample chapters) are in excellent shape, help you approach pitching with the right mindset, and work with you to create a pitch strategy that has the best chance of succeeding.

The reason my clients have done well in pitching is not because I have relationships with certain agents (although I do), because the odds of a client being a perfect match for the agents I happen to know is extremely slim. These writers have done well because they did the hard work of being ready to pitch.

The best way to get actual physical access to agents is to attend a conference where they are selling 1:1 face-to-face pitching -- upcoming ones include Muse and the Marketplace upcoming in Boston, ThrillerFest in NYC. But all of the above criteria still applies to these interactions: you have to be ready to take advantage of your chance to pitch.

I also recommend following @courtneymaum at Before and After the Book Deal, @kathleenschmidt at Publishing Confidential, and listening to The Shit No One Tells You About Publishing podcast, as well as the #amwriting podcast, where I am a co-host.

Thanks Jennie the face pitch is the only thing I haven't tried. BTW I'm never very serious. I participate for fun and want to maybe generate a little traffic. Unfortunately writers who get agents generally vanish. If I ever vanish you'll know what happened : )
