I had another post planned for today but I just got off a group coaching call where one of our certified book coaches shared that TODAY he just got the news that a client he coached landed a very exciting book deal.
It was the first time one of his writers reached that goal — and he was elated!
He shared the story of how long it took, how patient the writer was in the pitch process, how long they had been working on the project, and some of what they did together in their coaching.
He was over the moon — as he should be! It’s a major milestone in a coaches’ life.
I asked him how it felt compared to when he’d achieved success in his own writing life and he paused, said he was going to get emotional, paused again, and then said, “It feels ten times better!”*
There is something so powerful in helping someone else raise their voice and bring their creative work into the world.
It is a thrill to help people do it, and a privilege when they allow us into their creative process.
It filled ME with such joy to get to witness HIS joy so I just wanted to write a post to spread some of that happy feeling.
If you are doing this work, this is just a reminder to stop and feel the thrill of it.
*We captured all this on video, which I hope to share soon.
Love this! Yesterday, I helped a writer think of ways to infuse more joy into her writing, specifically by thinking of one thing she’s excited about with each scene she writes, so that the writing process feels like less of a drag when she’s in the day-to-day of it. One thing I’ve learned in working with writers is that sometimes something that seems simple to me may be a big learning for someone else, and so I love the chance to share my knowledge with other writers to help make the writing process a little easier for them.
